Proyecto Faro, or “Project Lighthouse,” is a local grassroots, immigrant-led organization where Rockland country immigrants help other immigrants navigate legal and logistical issues associated with their documentation status and impacted by deportation or detention. Families within our county’s immigrant community have been hit especially hard by the COVID pandemic, having lost employment, and becoming food insecure.
Through our participation in Rockland Jews for Immigrant Justice (RJIJ), CSI has sought out ways to show solidarity with our neighbors, including through our support of Proyecto Faro’s Emergency Food Relief program. This has included raising money for their food relief program, collecting non-perishable items for donation at various Hebrew School events, soliciting in-kind donations from large food companies, and seeking out grant opportunities in support of Faro’s work.
