Chessed Committee

Chesed is a Hebrew word that means kindness or love between people, specifically of the devotional piety of people towards God as well as of love or mercy of God towards humanity. It is frequently used in Psalms in the latter sense, where it is traditionally translated "loving kindness" in English.

Our Chesed committee is composed of volunteers who make sure we are able to care for one another during the highs and lows of life.

We organize as a community to offer emotional and logistical support or meals for members who are in mourning, recuperating from an illness or who are adjusting to the arrival of a new baby.

We also celebrate the accomplishments of our fellow members, from running a marathon to having an article published.

The Chesed committee runs an opt-in listserv to inform members about volunteer opportunities in support of our community.

Email office@csinyack.org to sign up.

More about CSI Nyack’s Chessed Committee:

The Chesed Committee is dedicated to keeping our CSI Nyack Community in the best physical and mental health possible, providing assistance wherever needed in the form of meals to the sick or those sitting shiva, with a new baby, or any situation where a meal will be welcome in times of distress.

  • We also provide rides to medical appointments, phone calls to the home-bound, a minyan for shiva, deliver meals to families sitting shiva, and cards through the Max Smith Fund to wish people Mazel Tov, Get Well, Thank You, In Memory of a loved one, and Thinking of You for various occasions. Volunteers are always welcome for any of these activities, and you are encouraged to participate to benefit our warm and welcoming community.

Y’asher Koach and Todah Rabah to all of our Volunteers!
